Positive: My stay at Gemma Resort was overall positive; however, there were some negative aspects that I don’t believe are acceptable for a five-star hotel. Let me start with the positives. The resort is large and very well maintained. Most of the staff are very friendly, always smiling and helpful. The restaurants offer a very varied buffet and the food quality is genuinely good. Compliments to the kitchen. From the very first day, the reception staff, especially the manager, were extremely helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. In fact he also kindly allowed us a very late check-out, which we truly appreciated.

Negative: As for the negative points, from a five-star resort one would expect more flexibility, especially regarding the buffet and the bar. On two occasions, we were not served drinks at exactly 11:00, even though I pointed out that not even a full minute had passed since the official closing time of the bar. In addition, the bidet in my room was installed crooked, and every time I turned on the water, it came out brown. Another issue in the bathroom was the shower. Even though it was very large, it only had a fixed overhead shower and no handheld shower. Moreover, the water flow was very weak and uneven due to heavy limescale buildup in the showerhead. Then, one evening, I asked for a bottle opener and four wine glasses, but they said they could not bring to our room. Instead, I was told I had to go to ask to the bar, which was about a 6–7 minute walk from my room. Another downside was the noise early in the morning. The cleaning staff, and especially the gardener, were quite noisy outside the room very early, making it difficult to rest properly. I also found the time change inconvenient. I was told that having a different time zone is meant to allow guests to enjoy one extra hour of sunlight, but in reality it was uncomfortable. For example, breakfast was already limited to just two hours, from 8:00 to 10:00. With the time change, this meant we had to wake up at 8:30 Egyptian time, which is 7:30 Italian time, just to have breakfast. Considering that the resort hosts mostly Italian guests, this is something that should have been taken into account. Finally, some members of the entertainment team were, honestly, quite inexperienced and a bit vain. For a five-star resort, I would have expected a higher-level and more professional animation team. Overall, there were many small details and several aspects that could be improved, which would not be acceptable in a European five-star hotel.

Summary: All in all, it was a pleasant stay with good value for money, but from a five-star resort I would expect much more.
